Digitalization as a virtual gateway to an even higher quality of life

What do streaming, online gaming, ordering pizza, buying tickets, working from home, and controlling Vienna's traffic network have in common? They all use the technical possibilities that result from a high degree of digitalization. The city of Vienna is investing massively so that new digital possibilities make everyday life easier for the population - for example, through the continuous expansion of handling official procedures and administrative tasks digitally, or by providing free Wi-Fi in public spaces throughout Vienna.

Benefitting the people remains the focus

For the city of Vienna, the people remain the focus when expanding digitilization. Whether it’s expanding digital services for citizens, improved sewer network control, launching a variety of apps for everyday use, investments in digital construction procedures, offering free IT courses, providing digital tools for schools and kindergartens, or applying intelligent traffic lights to avoid traffic jams: All digitalization measures aim to further improve the quality of life for Vienna's population.

Vienna continues to expand the fiber optic network

The already more than 2,800 km long Vienna fiber optic network will be gradually expanded in the coming years. By 2030, another 100,000 apartments in Vienna will be connected to the ultra-fast fiber optic network. In the long term, the city of Vienna aims to enable all Viennese to connect to the fiber optic network. In addition, Vienna is consciously investing in the rapid and comprehensive expansion of the 5G network.

Investments in digitalization as a mean to boost Vienna's business location

Nowadays, a well-developed fiber optic network and a high degree of digitalization are just as keen to a city's business location as a functioning sewage system or affordable and reliable public transportation. To continue being perceived as an attractive business location in the future, Vienna invests in digitalization because those investments do not only lead to an even higher quality of life for the population, but are economically beneficial and lead to the creation of new attractive jobs.
